International museums on the air 2014

The team

The operational team of GB1MSM

The members had a wonderful day celebrating the International Museums Weekend at the Manston Spitfire and Hurricane museum. Early in the morning we set up a large tent in the grounds and erected our aerials. Contacts were made with other museums across the country and in Europe on the amateur radio frequencies.

It was an opportunity to publicise the excellent work of the volunteers at the museum and the plight of the Manston airport. The special event call sign GB1MSM enabled us to invite members of the public to send a message to other amateur radio enthusiasts. There was a lot of interest in our activity and we recruited new members to the club.

On Sunday 22 June we will return to the White Mill windmill in Sandwich which has a very interesting heritage museum. Please come along and see how the hobby of amateur radio is an exciting modern pursuit.
