At Thursday’s meeting Ian Solly M0CAG demonstrated two digital radios. His Windows 10 PC was connected to the internet using a hotspot on his phone. On the left hand side of the photo you can see his DV Access Point Dongle, DVAP, plugged into an Icom 51E Dual Band D-Star handheld. The DV Access Point Dongle is basically a GMSK modem which transmits and receives bits encoded in the D-STAR packet format using GMSK modulation. Via Win D software, Ian connected to gateways and repeaters around the world.
On the right hand side he had a DV4mini USB stick connected to his DMR handheld Hytera PD365. Using DV4MF2 software Ian was able to connect to the DMR network.
