A Royal Navy career in Morse by George Miles G3NIR
We had an enjoyable talk from George Miles G3NIR about his association with Morse in the Royal Navy. It seems George had the 'gift' when he took his first test as a 15 year old recruit. He had a distinguished career with only one memorable mistake when he failed to fully transcribe a message. Because he had omitted the surface time of a submarine it set off a panic alert - what's happened to the submarine!
Another time he was working with a colleague and they devised a game to relieve the boredom; they would send alternate blocks of characters, later alternate characters. They almost got round to each one sending either the dots or dashes before they were rumbled! Thank you George for sharing your experiences with us.
